AsciiDoctor is also well worth investigating; it is designed to compile to Docbook XML, which has a rich set of publishing tools.

One of those tools is dblatex https://pypi.org/project/dblatex/

Going from asciidoc to docbook to LaTeX to pdf while sounds complicated is actually quite simple in practice.

You totally miss point of this article: Markdown, even if not so powerful, have many more tools and support than other markup language (including org-mode)
