US Senate bill would legally require Apple to build a backdoor into iPhones

The title is probably clickbait, as the article starts:

> Update: It appears this bill, first proposed last year, is no longer likely to proceed.

The article was published today, though, and seems to be riding the recent wave of criticism of Apple's on-device scanning "feature".

This is not the last time we’ll see this of course, even if this bill doesn’t have a path forward. It seems there are few in congress that appreciate just how bad of an idea this is.
