TL;DR: The plastic barriers can impede ventilation/airflow, which is the best way to stop the spread of covid in interior spaces.
I've been surprised at the continued emphasis on things-that-aren't-airflow related at containing Covid. In particular, if you've stayed at a hotel recently, you'll find a lot of emphasis on surface sanitation. I want to know if the hotel has aired out the room recently -- I don't care that the surfaces were wiped down.
